Anping Tree House, Tainan

IMG_8467

After we arrived Fort Zeelandia bus stop, we went to visit Anping Tree House first. Anping Tree House was originally a warehouse of British Tait & Co.. After the building was abandoned, the roots of the old banyan tree hangs from the damaged roof and roots on the wall. This forms the special landscape of tree house. Visiting Anping Tree House was also including visit the former merchant house of Tait & Co., which is museum nowadays, and Chu Jiu Ying Memorial Hall. Continue reading

IMG_8303

Tainan is commonly known as the “Capital City” for its over 200 years of history as the capital of Taiwan under Koxinga and Qing Dynasty rule (see wikipedia). As Taiwan’s oldest urban area, Tainan was initially established by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Fort Zeelandia and Fort Provintia were the ruling and trading bases during the period of Dutch rule on the island. Chihkan Tower is built on the remains of Fort Provintia and is a historical trace of the cultural and ruling changings. It’s just nearby our hotel, thus, we started our Tainan historical one day trip from here. Continue reading

IMG_8192

This was Bart’s first visiting to Tainan. After a short nap at hotel, we began our tour again by foot to Tainan Park and Banyan Garden at National Cheng Kung University. Then we met my classmates of HE96 nearby the university to have hotpot as dinner. Continue reading

Malacca Old Town – Part 1

IMG_0292.jpg

After having buffet breakfast at hotel, we began our journey to visit this UNESCO world heritage site. Malacca City is the oldest Malaysian city on the Straits of Malacca. Malacca was established by Parameswara in 1396. In 15th and 16th century, Malacca was an important trading port of Arabs, Persians, Gujaratis, Tamils, Bengalis, and Chinese traders. At the beginning of 15th century, Malacca was fallen under protection of Ming Dynasty; Malacca was then conquered by Portugal in 1511, by Dutch in 1641, later transferred to British in 1824, finally independent and become one of the states of Malaya which later formed with Sarawak and Sabah as Malaysia. This history makes Malacca unique with its multicultural nowadays, especially Baba Nyonya (ethnic mixture from Malay and Chinese) culture. In 2008, Malacca City is officially been announced as UNESCO world heritage site. We have visited A’Famosa Fort, St. Paul Hill and Church, Stadthuys, Malacca Church, and lastly at Hard Rock Cafe for our lunch. This section share the first part of the pictures (until St. Paul Church). Continue reading

Royal Delft Experience (1)

IMG_2434.jpg

Thanks for my acer colleagues giving us this Royal Delft Experience to explore typical Dutch culture. We have decided to enjoy this wonderful present at Bart’s birthday. During our visiting at Royal Delft, we have explored a lot about Delft Blue’s collections and historical memories of the Dutch Royal Families, and, most important, the High Tea arrangement was excellent.
